I’m teaming up with Wayfair to bring you The Winter Edit, a collection of advice, inspiration, and trends for the upcoming season, starting with a Q & A between Wayfair and me, Ayla:

Winter Decorating Q & A with Ayla Brown

Wayfair: Are there any design projects you are focusing on now (or any that you recently finished) that you’d like to share?

Ayla Brown: I feel like my house is a never ending project! My fiance and I just took out a wall in-between our kitchen and living room, so we are able to see straight through to the TV in the living room. When cooking dinner we can actually spend time talking instead of walking around the wall. It’s amazing!! We put a live edge bar and added two additional Wayfair bar stools. I bought the first two when I lived in Nashville, but I love them so much that I bought two more so we can host more people at our house!

Next project will be a new couch. The one we have in our living room really doesn’t fit aesthetically and physically. The couch is just too big for this little living room!!

And this summer I bought a summer Cape Cod Cottage and we needed a fridge. We bought a fridge from Wayfair and put it in there. It fits perfectly in the little 306sqft cottage! You can check out the cottage at www.alwayshaveahome.com or on Instagram and Facebook @AlwaysHaveAHome.

Wayfair: Are there any design trends you are especially into lately?

Ayla Brown: I finally stepped out of my comfort zone and put up wallpaper!! I was so nervous because I’m not usually a wall paper kind of girl, but I LOVE the way it came out. It’s amazing how much an accent wall can change the vibe of a room!

Wayfair: Which color palettes are speaking to you this season?

Ayla Brown: I’ve always been drawn to blues, greys, salmon and teal.

Wayfair: What are a few ways people can spruce up their homes with holiday decor while on a budget?

Ayla Brown: Throw pillows for a couch! Affordable decor for the mantle! And an accent piece next to a couch can always make a difference. Heck, even changing out the dish towels for a more festive look! And of course, a nice wreath for your door.

For the first time in my life, I am hosting Christmas for my family! I am so nervous to cook for everyone. I mean, what happens if I burn the house down?! All kidding aside, I can’t wait to hang the lights outside, put the wreaths on the door, and I’m putting a mini Christmas tree in my two spare rooms.
