AYLA PERFORMS AT FOURTH OF JULY FESTIVITIES IN RYE
JULY 7

Ayla performed songs from Forward at the Fourth of July festivities in Rye, N.H., on Friday. The visit was covered by The Portsmouth Herald and was published on its Web site, SeacoastOnline.com. Below is a snippet from the article...

For Brown, it doesn't get any better than being in Rye on the Fourth.

"I've been coming to the fireworks every year since I was in first or second grade," she said. "I love it. I had offers to hang out with friends, and I said, 'No, no. I'm going to the fireworks. You can come with me if you want to.'"

That she was a participant and not only a spectator at the fireworks event should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the career of this young woman from Wrentham, Mass.

AYLA NAMED SPORTS ILLUSTRATED'S "INTERN OF THE WEEK"
JUNE 29

Ayla was profiled by Sports Illustrated and named the magazine's "Intern of the Week" in an article that was published on the publication's Web site on Friday. Below is a snippet from the article...

In fifth grade, Ayla Brown wrote a story about her dream job. She wanted to fly her own plane to a WNBA game, sing the national anthem, then slip into her No. 1 jersey and score 40 points.

"I used to laugh at her," says Gail Brown, Ayla's mother. "Now I'm waiting for her to come home with a pilot's license."

Brown isn't flying yet, but the Boston College women's basketball starter and former American Idol finalist has added another talent to her repertoire this summer: starring in a professional production of the musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. With workouts in the morning and rehearsals at night, this summer is yet another battle in Brown's struggle to balance her playing and performing lives -- a struggle that wouldn't exist if Simon Cowell had had his way.

"I would absolutely say no," Cowell, Idol's prickly judge, told a national television audience after hearing Brown's rendition of Ain't No Mountain High Enough at the Idol auditions.

AYLA FEATURED IN BOSTON GLOBE ARTICLE ON "JOSEPH"
JUNE 12

Ayla was interviewed for a preview piece for "Joseph" that ran in the "Globe West Arts" section of today's Boston Globe. Below is a snippet from the article...

In a rehearsal room in Waltham, the Reagle Players cast for "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" is burning up the dance floor like it's opening night. They jazz step, shimmy, and twirl as their chorus of voices rises for the finale of the song "Go, Go, Go, Joseph." And then, there it is. One clear, lush, show-stopping voice rings out above it all, singing the lines, "Ahead of your time! Ahead of my time!"

It's Ayla Brown, 2005 "American Idol" finalist and Wrentham native, who makes her musical theater debut with this afternoon's opening performance of "Joseph" in the key role of the Narrator. But the voice is not the beginner's soprano that got Brown all the way to 13th place on the network television reality show, even without formal training. It's a richer, more mezzo and mature vocal sound that's more than ready for the musical stage.

"It's a real belt sound, but she's got a pretty sound as well, and that's exactly what the role calls for," said the troupe's founder, Robert J. Eagle, who tapped Brown for the part.

AYLA BROWN: FROM AMERICAN IDOL TO A TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
JUNE 04

Ayla was profiled in an article by Francis Ma of TownOnline.com on her upcoming role in the Reagle Players' production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," which she is currently rehearsing for. Below is a snippet from the article...

"I don't have any frustrations of having the title 'former contestant on American Idol,'" says Brown. "That's who I am. If I was never on 'American Idol,' I would never be in this musical."

That's right, fans. Your favorite Boston Idol is returning to the stage..

Along with playing gigs whenever she can (singing songs from her 2006 album "Forward"), she has somehow found the time to join the cast of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," a Reagle Players production that will play from June 12-21 in Waltham.

"I've never seen a production of it," admits Brown, who plays the narrator. "But I've done the research. I bought the CD and the Donny Osmond movie. And every day I love it more and more."
