Battle of Comm Ave. today at Conte and the Eagles won by eight points!

Women's Basketball Earns 69-61 Victory Over BU
Swords picks up seventh double-double (17 pts., 12 rebs.) of the season.
Jan. 3, 2010

Senior guard Mickel Picco hit six free throws in the final 30 seconds to lead Boston College past Boston University, 69-61, in front of 803 fans at Conte Forum. Boston College is now 8-6 on the season and will host Dartmouth University on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.

Picco finished the game shooting 3-for-6 from the three-point line and had 17 points, while junior center Carolyn Swords notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Stefanie Murphy added 10 points and seven rebounds, while freshman Kelsey Reynolds added seven points, three assists and two steals.

Boston University (4-8) was led by Chantell Alford with 20 points, while Alex Young added 14 points and five assists.

With the score 29-28 at the half, the host Eagles fell behind for the first time in the game at 18:42 on a drive by Young. The lead would then change 10 times until BC took hold of the game with just over 12 minutes to play when Reynolds stole the ball and completed a traditional three-point play. A jumper by Swords in the key gave BC a six point lead at 10:12 in the game.

Picco hit a key three-pointer from the top of the key with nine minutes left and BC was up 51-42. The play of the second half was a great high-low play as Murphy hit Swords on a back door and the Eagles went up 57-49. The Terriers were not phased by the Eagles run as they cut the lead to seven points, 63-56, with Swords on the bench taking a break. A layup by Alford with 45 seconds cut the lead to 63-58 but BC would feed Picco the ball the guard proceeded to go 6-for-6 from the line in the final 39 seconds of play.

BC jumped to an 8-3 lead to start the game. The Terriers went 5-for-12 from the three-point arc to stay close. The Eagles went cold in the final five minutes of the game after taking a 29-21 lead on a jumper by Jasmine Gill. BU heated up while BC did not score in the final 5:30 of the half. The Eagles held a 29-28 lead at the half.

Game Notes: Mickel Picco has hit a three-pointer in 25 consecutive games. The program record is 32 set by Picco last season ... BC had a season low of seven turnovers in the first half ... Carolyn Swords earned her fourth consecutive double-double and seventh this season with 17 points and 12 rebounds ... The Eagles received solid play off the bench as Ayla Brown, Kelsey Reynolds, Jasmine Gill and Kerri Shields combined for 16 points, 13 rebounds and four assists ... Ayla Brown had nine rebounds in the game.

Yea, I thought it was interesting they thought it was a good idea to include that stat. I'm thinking once ACC play kicks in things will get more intense and those numbers will go up.
